Takahki Therapy is a new massage therapy business that was co-founded by 3 indigenous women who are from the Treaty Six Territory.

Takahki Therapy aims to bridge the gap and bring the benefits of massage therapy to First nations communities that may not have access to this kind of therapy.

Takahki is a Cree word meaning “good, very good”.

Massage Therapy helps to facilitate healing within our own bodies through therapeutic touch.

The Cree syllabics translate to “very good, healing medicine”.

“Roberta Beatty, a registered massage therapist, comes from the reserve of Kimosom Pwatnak (Deschambault Lake), Saskatchewan, Canada, on Treaty Six Territory. Her Indigenous roots and the significance of her land have instilled in her a deep sense of pride and connection.

Roberta’s journey towards becoming a massage therapist began through her involvement in hockey, where she witnessed the toll the sport took on athletes’ physical well-being. This realization sparked her curiosity and desire to explore ways to nurture and preserve the body’s health. She became fascinated by the therapeutic effects of massage therapy, which she saw as a means to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and promote overall wellness.

Motivated by a strong sense of purpose, she started her education and training. She immersed herself in the study of Medical Massage Therapy at Axiom Career College, honing her skills to become a proficient therapist. Alongside her studies, she sought opportunities to gain practical experience and provide massage therapy to those in need.

With a vision to make a positive impact on the lives of First Nations people across Saskatchewan, Roberta co-founded Takahki Therapy with Marilyn Beatty and Jordan Ledoux. The name “Takahki” holds deep significance as it means “good, very good” in Cree, her Cree language.

Through Takahki Therapy, Roberta aims to bridge the gap and bring the benefits of massage therapy to First Nations communities that may lack access or awareness of this transformative practice.

The team is committed to travelling to reserves, organizing massage therapy events, and collaborating with community organizations to ensure that everyone, regardless of their location or background, can experience the therapeutic potential of massage therapy.”

“Jordan Ledoux, a nehiyaw iskwew (Cree woman) from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 6 Territory, is deeply committed to reconnecting with and uplifting the members of her nation, despite not growing up in the community.

Graduating from the Professional Institute of Massage Therapy in 2019, Jordan has garnered over 4 years of experience as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), having worked at two clinics before dedicating her weekly services to Muskeg Lake. Her career trajectory, she believes, is only just beginning.

Choosing massage therapy stemmed from Jordan’s innate curiosity about the human body’s workings and her desire to aid in people’s recovery—a decision she found natural.

Jordan’s mission is to facilitate her clients’ attainment of balance, pain relief, and tension release, enabling them to excel. Her compassionate demeanor and dedication to continuous learning facilitate the customization of treatment plans to meet individual client needs and goals.

One client expressed, “I have strong emotions, but there’s something about your energy. I believe you’re special, a genuinely good person. Being deeply spiritual, I sense immense positivity around you; you bring me calmness, allowing me to release these emotions. I want to express my thanks.”

A healer by nature, Jordan received validation of this title from a grateful client. Together with her partners Roberta and Marilyn, Jordan established Takahki Therapy, driven by a collective vision of community healing, guided by the four aspects of the medicine wheel—mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical.

Emphasizing the importance of self-care, Jordan and her team affirm the worthiness of every individual’s journey to holistic healing, encouraging them to prioritize their well-being.”

Marilyn Beatty-Martin is from a reserve up north called Kimosom Pwatinahk (Deschambault Lake). She is part of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation band which has traditional territory within Treaty Six Territory. Marilyn has been a registered massage therapist within the city of Saskatoon for 8 years and has been in business for over 4 years with her business Marilyn Beatty Massage Therapy.

Marilyn completed her 2200 hour remedial massage therapy diploma here in Saskatoon at McKay Career Training in June of 2015, she has been registered with the Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan since September of 2015.

She became certified in Prenatal and Maternity Massage through Axiom Career College in August of 2017, and became fully certified in a new soft tissue technique called Rapid-Neurofascial Reset in May of 2018. She recently co-founded Takahki Therapy in February 2023 with her business partners Jordan Ledoux and Roberta Beatty.

Marilyn loves anatomy and after helping people for the past few years you will understand that she thinks in terms of each person’s unique body mechanics, (body mechanics is how you hold your body at work, how you walk and what past/current injuries you may have had that might be contributing to your current pain and tension.)

Marilyn and her business partners Roberta and Jordan established Takahki Therapy after they all came to realize how they all had one goal in common. We all wanted to help our First Nations people and their communities discover the healing benefits of registered massage therapy.

It was when she travelled out to Big River First Nation with the Takahki Therapy team to provide massage therapy for a Staff Appreciation event that she knew this is what we were meant to be doing, the gratitude the clients expressed was confirmation.
